“The word Dervish comes from the root dar, meaning door, and a vish which can mean contemplation or meditation. The contemplative dervish sits on the threshold of the phenomenal and nominal world, being in them but not of them.”
It is about turns and movements around time. It is about harmony and clash. In one moment one feels in balance and the next, things fall apart. However, the dance must go on until meets the sky. Light will be the limit for an evolution starting from nothingness. Every sequence with all its ambiguous existence is a step towards the path of becoming.
This project reveals tension between three movements.
One is a self-renewal object rising from exterior ground, cutting through the boundaries, extending towards the lights coming from the openings on interior roof.
Second one is a faceted envelope that is a series of abstracting sequences of a whirling dervish. This asymmetrical envelope meets the evolving object at the border of interiority and exteriority.
At the end is the extension of interiority towers outside. The interior space extends itself towards an indoor garden that is held by the faceted envelope, right before it meets the yard.
All together this project creates a monumental extension to a house that holds extreme moments and stories. Through a process of renovation, we are focusing on 98 square meter of a weekend family house to turn it into a space of serenity, a place that people keep going back to. By:Sarvenaz Yassari
