This project is located in the outskirt of Unban area, in west edge of Tehran, in a suburban village called the “Homely Town” (Shahrak e Khaneh in Farsi).
Suburban houses in this village normally have a reach domestic quality, Typical A-frame houses that are sitting in rows repeating one another.
This project is breaking the domestic interior through creating pure open spaces that are connected to exteriors through transparent sidewalls. Also by rethinking those repetitive volumes of houses in that village we reached in to Simple cubic volumes sitting on each other which are wrapped with another layer that is creating semi open spaces and standing out in its suburban context. This outstanding form reveals its contents not in a didactic way. This quality became possible by the sensitive combination of light and heavy materials.
Spaces are including front and back yard, the volume itself that is divided in two levels and a basement and the in-between spaces which bluer the borders between interiority and exteriority and invites the beautiful scenery inside.
The back yard (south) has a barbeque area and a slender swimming pool that extend itself towards the interior open plan. The open plan on the ground floor creates a dynamic space that air, light and view floats in it. Interior walls on the ground floor don’t reach the ceiling not to stop this sense of floating. Bedrooms and the privet spaces exist on the second floor with a great view of the village which is full of old trees. Basement contains all the service spaces.
Due to some construction regulation east-west sides of the building had to be closed. This limiting regulation turned into an opportunity to create a semi open space as the east balcony of the first floor created by the wrapping layer which evolves from a platform to a wall and finally turns into a roof. On the ground floor, the platform is turned into terraces that run continuously around the building, creating a border as an inviting, pre-interior space.
As mentioned, the heavy solid volume is moderated through transparent sidewalls. It is standing on slender columns that are inspired by trees surrounding this project. These columns are growing from the foundation up towards the interior and semi indoor spaces. These columns are not only structural, but also by cutting through the spaces are introducing the interiority to new spatial qualities.
All and all, the idea was to put forms in dialogue with their naturally reach and green context. Decision was not to mimic the nature instead to create a conversation between the context and the solid modern forms through architectural elements such as transparency, viewpoints and openings.
