Villa Naroon is an elevated and twisted traditional courtyard. As a matter of fact it is shaped from several courtyards that alongside other spaces create a maze shape, inside looking weekend villa in Lavasan, north east of Tehran.
Exteriority of this piece of architecture can be described as indulgingly calm, sophisticated and modest. However stepping inwards, one faces series of spatial sequences, such as a staircase that leads to a small courtyard with a concrete wall that is missing some of its blocks, creating a visual pause. From there heading towards the interiority, after walking through long and short corridors, indoor staircases with different materials, on one hand getting a little bit lost and on the other experiencing the space simultaneously an “ Alice in wonderland” sort of feeling accurse, especially on that moment when one is surrounded by exuberant interior furniture. There, is the moment when the silence of the solid body of architecture breaks and an irrational complimentary dialogue between inside and outside forms itself.
A wide range of materials that is arranged across the spaces are creating a second layer of spatial experience when one sees, touches and walks through this project.
This project exists with verity of spatial qualities inside the shell of a simple maze.
